1. 1 bottle (750 ml) dry red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Zinfandel will do, no need to use the good stuff!)
2. 1/4 cup Phoodie Pantry Festive Fireside Mulling Spice Mix
3. 1/2 cup sugar
4. 1/4 cup brandy
5. 1 orange, sliced
6. Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
Directions
1. In a large saucepan, combine the red wine, mulling spice, sugar, brandy, and orange slices.
2. Heat until the wine almost reaches a simmer over medium-high heat. (Avoid letting it bubble in any way. Alcohol begins to evaporate at 172°F, so take care to ensure that this doesn’t happen.)
3. Reduce heat to low, cover completely, and let the wine simmer for 20-30 minutes at a minimum.
4. Strain the wine into a heatproof pitcher or individual mugs.
5. Serve hot and garnish with a cinnamon stick, if desired.
